D. KENT (Cork, East) asked the Secretary for Local Government what arrangements should be made where substitutes were rendered necessary owing to the Clerk of a local authority being unable to discharge his duties from ignorance of the Irish language.
The SECRETARY FOR LOCAL GOVERNMENT stated that one similar case had arisen. The decision was that the Clerk get six months to learn the language, and that the substitute be paid in the meantime by the Council.
