Various forms of parliament had existed in Ireland over the centuries, culminating in "Grattan's Parliament" of 1782 to 1800.
Grattan’s Parliament met in the first purpose-built two-chamber parliament house in the world, situated on College Green in Dublin. When it was abolished, the lack of a parliament in Ireland became the focus of Irish politics for more than a century.
